// For Server Admins

Give your server a district, not another bot to mute.

DOWNLINK is a full cyberpunk RPG your members play in their DMs. Your server becomes a named district of the city, and the only place the bot ever posts is one channel you create and control. Add it yourself in about two minutes: open alpha, free, no waitlist, no approval step.

  • Free during alpha
  • No waitlist
  • No admin permission
  • Posts in one channel
  • You set the feed volume
  • Built-in mod tools
  • Solo-complete

Add DOWNLINK to your server.

Opens Discord’s authorization screen. You choose the server, and Discord shows every permission before anything is added. About two minutes, start to finish.

// 01 — What happens when you install

Two minutes to set up. Then it runs itself.

  1. Create #downlink_game, then click Install

    Discord shows you the permissions and asks which server. That’s the whole setup. About two minutes.

  2. The city notices

    The bot posts one arrival notice in #downlink_game, voiced by one of the city’s factions, and your server appears on the map as a new district with its own name.

  3. Members DM the bot /start

    They build a character in a couple of minutes, with your server as their home district. From there the game is in their DMs, on their own schedule.

  4. Your channel comes alive

    District events land in #downlink_game for anyone to join, alongside highlights of your members’ big moments. /district-feed sets how much you see.

// A real arrival notice, as it appears in #downlink_game

Foundry klaxon, three short. Somebody chalks Cinder Row onto the wall beside the shift board.

“New ground. Same rules. We protect our own, we pay our dues, and we don’t forget who stood the line. If you can work, there’s work.”

Every server gets a generated district name. This one is a sample; yours will be your own.

// 02 — Why this one is different

You’ve seen Discord game bots before.

Most of them are a cooldown timer with a currency attached. They flood your channels for a week, then everyone mutes them. DOWNLINK was built the other way around.

  • Usual botType a command, wait out a cooldown, type it again.

    DOWNLINKTwenty cycles a day, each one a decision. Play in one sitting, or check in over coffee.

  • Usual botPosts in every channel until someone mutes it.

    DOWNLINKPlays out in DMs. Posts only in #downlink_game, at a volume you choose.

  • Usual botLoot boxes, premium currency, paid boosts.

    DOWNLINKNothing to buy, and a standing promise: never pay-to-win.

  • Usual botDead the moment the server goes quiet.

    DOWNLINKSolo is a complete game. Crew jobs and events are there when people are online.

  • Usual botAsks for Administrator “just in case.”

    DOWNLINKFive basic permissions. No admin, no manage-server, no managing roles or messages.

  • Usual botModeration is your problem.

    DOWNLINKHandle screening, silent blocks, a report queue for your mods, and per-district restrictions.

// 03 — What it asks for

The minimum, and nothing hidden

  • View Channels
  • Send Messages
  • Embed Links
  • Read Message History
  • Use External Emojis
  • Slash commands

No Administrator, no Manage Server, no managing roles, channels or messages. Restrict it to #downlink_game and nothing breaks. The bot ignores messages in every other channel.

// 04 — Tools for your mods

Moderation built in

/district-feed
Choose highlights only or all activity for #downlink_game.
/district-time
Set your district’s local time zone.
/district-policy
Open or close new-player signups from your server.
/district-mod-role
Let a mod role handle DOWNLINK moderation.
/district-reports
Review player reports from your district.
/district-player-moderation
Restrict a player inside your district.

These need Manage Server, or a mod role you’ve set with /district-mod-role.

// 05 — What your members get

A real game, not a slot machine

  • A character built from the skills they actually use: twenty skills, no classes, no two builds alike.
  • Hundreds of branching contracts, with the odds shown before every choice.
  • Crafting, one-of-a-kind items, six operatives with storylines, and a Rebirth system for the long haul.
  • Crew jobs for 2–4 players, drop-in district events in #downlink_game, duels, and cross-server syndicates.
  • A character that is theirs, not your server’s. It goes with them to any other server they’re in that runs DOWNLINK.

// 06 — Free alpha

Free to play. Free to leave.

There is nothing to buy, and there will never be pay-to-win. The game is live and stable, but it is an alpha: we ship often, balance numbers will move, and we say so in plain language when they do. Player data is preserved through changes.

Remove the bot and nobody loses anything. Characters belong to players, not servers. Members whose home was your district move to the official server’s district, with a notice.

// 07 — The full FAQ

Every policy claim on this page reflects how the bot actually behaves. If we change the behavior, we change this page in the same release.

Privacy

What does DOWNLINK store about my members?

Their Discord user ID (never their email or real name), the character they create, its inventory and history, and what they send the bot: DMs, button presses, slash commands, and messages in #downlink_game. Recent messages can be kept as context so a moderation report shows what happened. The bot ignores every other channel. Separately, when anyone joins your server, the bot logs their Discord user ID, your server’s ID, the invite they used (when it can tell) and the time, even if they never play. We use that to see where new players come from.

Where does that data live?

In the game’s own database on our server, not on Discord. Backups are kept in private cloud storage. Player data is never sold, never shared with ad networks or third-party analytics, and never used to train AI models.

Can a player delete their data?

Yes. In a DM with the bot, a player opens /profile, then Settings, then Delete account. After a confirmation screen, their character, inventory, history and player record are deleted immediately. The server-join log described above is kept separately. Anyone mid-way through a crew job, duel, raid or syndicate war finishes or leaves it first.

Why does the bot use the Message Content intent?

So it can answer typed commands and help requests in #downlink_game. It ignores messages in every other channel. If you restrict the bot’s channel access to #downlink_game, Discord never sends it anything from your other channels at all.

Deployment

What permissions does the bot need?

View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Read Message History, Use External Emojis, plus slash commands. No Administrator, no Manage Server, no managing roles, channels or messages. Discord shows this exact list on the authorization screen before anything is added.

How do I set it up?

Two steps, about two minutes. First, create a text channel named #downlink_game (the bot also recognizes #downlinkgame, #downlink_ and #downlink). Second, click Install and authorize the bot for your server. The bot posts a single arrival notice in that channel, and your server appears on the city map as a new district. Members start by DMing the bot /start.

Does the bot make its own channel?

No. You create #downlink_game yourself, so you decide who can see it and where it sits. That channel is where district events your members can join show up, along with highlights of their big moments. Skip the channel and the game still works entirely in DMs.

Can I lock the bot to just the #downlink_game channel?

Yes, and we recommend it. Restrict the bot to #downlink_game and nothing breaks: the game itself happens in players’ DMs, and in-server commands are meant to run in that channel anyway.

Does the bot spam my channels?

No. It never posts outside #downlink_game. Inside it, every kind of post is rate-limited, and /district-feed lets you choose between highlights only or all activity.

Do my members have to install anything?

Nothing. No app, no separate account, no website login. If a member can DM a Discord bot, they can play, on desktop or phone.

Is there a member minimum?

No floor and no ceiling. The game is solo-complete, so it doesn’t depend on a crowd being online at once. A 12-person server works; so does a 12,000-person one.

What happens if I remove the bot?

Nothing is lost. Members whose home district was your server move to Relay Zero, the official server’s district, with an in-game notice. Their characters and progress are untouched, because characters belong to players, not servers.

Safety

What if a player harasses someone?

The target can /block them silently; the harasser can’t tell. /report sends a report with recent context to your district’s queue, where your mods review it with /district-reports and can restrict that player in your district with /district-player-moderation.

How is player-written text handled?

Handles and syndicate names are screened before they’re saved. Messages between players pass through each recipient’s chat filter, which is on by default. The bot never posts free text from players into your server; everything it posts comes from the game’s own templates.

What if my server has younger members?

Discord’s terms require users to be 13 or older. DOWNLINK doesn’t collect age and has cyberpunk themes (crime, violence, morally grey choices) that won’t suit every audience. There’s no explicit sexual content. If your community skews young, preview the tone on the official server before installing.

It’s an alpha. What does that mean for me?

The game is live and stable, but it changes often. We ship frequently and announce changes in-world and in plain language. Player data is preserved through updates; some balance numbers will move as we tune.

Who do I talk to if something’s wrong?

Use the form at the bottom of this page, or email [email protected] about moderation incidents, data deletion, privacy questions or bugs. A human reads every message.

// Optional · talk to a human

Questions before you install?

You don’t need to sign up to install; the button above does it. Use this form if you want a human to walk your mods through setup, you have a question the FAQ didn’t cover, or you just want us to know your server is coming. Or email us directly at [email protected].
